Hi Friend,
I wish I could say that I made art this week, but I didn’t.
Instead, I spent the week moving everything out of my living room and bathroom so the landlord could paint and redo the flooring (which hasn’t been done in 20+ years, so it’s a welcome thing, but a lot of work), and in the midst of that I started to get a sore throat and blocked sinuses (covid tests have all been negative), and I also had to pack for a road trip. Each evening this week, I sat down in front of a blank piece of paper, stared at it for a good 10 minutes, and then put it away. I felt too exhausted to make anything, but that didn’t stop the little voice inside of my head saying “you need to MAKE ART, no matter the circumstance!” Luckily I was so out of it, that mean voice couldn’t get much headway, and I chose to sleep instead. I’m considering this a victory.
So, please enjoy these two drawings that I made last year. I had a lot of fun using both pigment liner and sharpies. The sharpies tend to get splotchy and bleed a bit, so you kind of have to let go and allow them to do what they want. Which I guess is a metaphor for going with the flow, as life tends to make one do.

Hi Tanya! My phoenix would be a bird in a bad mood because remodeling does that to my brain. Now “sharpies” have a mind of their own. I was almost done with a beautiful trellis and my sharpie leaked a quarter size of pure red ink onto my painting………it became an abstract birdhouse lol.
