Hello Friend,
I took last weekend off to celebrate my birthday. It was a lovely weekend full of good friends, delicious food, dog snuggles and meandering beach walks.
I did think of you and wondered, should I send an email saying that I wouldn’t be sending an email? That seemed silly. Then I wondered if anyone would miss my weekly email/post. But then I was presented with the most amazing piece of lemon cheese cake I’d ever experienced, and I forgot everything else.
How about you? Same?
I also spent some time experimenting with reverse painting, or negative space painting, where you layer many coats of watercolor on top of each other. You have to let each layer dry, and even when using my hair dryer to speed up this process, it was a good exercise in patience, and letting go of outcome, as each layer added something new to the image. I found the final results to be beautifully messy.
I also tried this method with colored pencils and while I prefer the watercolor look, it was really fun to do all the shading with the same blue pencil over and over, and is a good choice for doing art while on the train as long as you don’t mind some less than perfect circles.
If you’re curious about this technique, let me know, and I’d be happy to share the video I found.
xo

Love these, and your writing voice! Are you a fellow Pisces?
This is a cool technique, it gives a feeling of perspective. More effective with the watercolor, definitely, than the pencils .
